Robert G. Locey, affectionately known as “Tubby,” passed away in his home in Chico, California, on August 8, 2025, at the age of 90. His death marks the end of a life dedicated to community, family, and nature. Born on July 15, 1935, Robert was a lifelong resident of Chico, a city he cherished deeply.
Locey’s legacy began at a young age when, at only 10, he was awarded for his bravery after rescuing a boy from drowning. This incident foreshadowed a life characterized by courage and compassion. He later served in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged on January 12, 1962.
Family and Passions
In 1961, Robert married Helen M. Lester, his beloved wife. Together, they created a family that thrived on love, laughter, and a shared passion for the great outdoors. Robert was an avid hunter and fisherman who spent countless hours immersed in nature, often sharing these experiences with family and friends.
He is survived by his daughters, Charlene Locey and Cheri Lessnau, along with her husband Matthew. He also leaves behind his sister Leslie Carnegie and brother John Locey. In a statement, the family expressed their gratitude for the support they have received during this time and shared that Robert’s wishes were to forgo any formal services.
Honoring a Life Well-Lived
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages friends and acquaintances to honor Robert’s memory in their own way, perhaps by enjoying a quiet day outdoors, reflecting his love for nature. Donations can be made to Veteran’s Affairs (VA) to support fellow veterans, in keeping with Robert’s spirit of service and community.
Robert G. Locey’s life was a testament to courage, love, and a deep appreciation for the natural world. His impact on those around him will not be forgotten, as his family and friends carry forward the values he instilled in them.
