Timothy “Tim” R. Oswalt, aged 68, passed away on the evening of January 12, 2026, at his home in Bluffton. His death marks a significant loss for both his family and the community, where he was known for his commitment to family and local activities.
Born on August 21, 1957, in Bluffton to Gustin E. and Doris J. (Shaw) Oswalt, Tim was preceded in death by both parents and his stepfather, Harold McFarren. He graduated from Bluffton High School in 1976 and dedicated over three decades of his career to O & R Precision Grinding, where he worked in multiple capacities until his retirement.
Tim was actively involved in his community, particularly as a member of the Bluffton Elks Lodge 796. He enjoyed spending time on the golf course and coaching summer softball leagues while his daughters were growing up. His passion for sports extended to his allegiance to the Indiana University and the Indianapolis Colts, but his greatest joy came from being a grandfather. He cherished attending the activities of his four grandchildren, Jaxon and Carter Lyon, along with Laney and Gavin Sawyer.
Tim’s family includes two daughters, Brooke (Benjamin) Lyon of St. John, Indiana, and Rhiannon Oswalt of Bluffton. He is also survived by four sisters: Rose (Dan) Anderson, Carolyn (Tom) Mechling, Marolyn (Calvin) Roth, and Vickie (Larry) Boots, all residing in Bluffton, as well as a step-sister, Sharon (Richard) Abbott, and a step-brother, Jack McFarren, who also live in the area. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Evan Sawyer.
Visitation and Memorial Services Scheduled
Visitation for Tim Oswalt will take place on January 15, 2026, from 14:00 to 20:00 at Goodwin – Harnish Funeral Home in Bluffton. Following the visitation, an Elks Memorial Service will be held at 20:00. The funeral service will occur the next day, January 16, 2026, at 10:30, with an hour of visitation preceding the service. Barry Crosbie will officiate, and burial will follow at Stahl Cemetery in Wells County.
