Ann L. Flannery, affectionately known as Annie, passed away peacefully at her home in Shenandoah on August 5, 2025, surrounded by her devoted sister, Mary Flannery, and cousin, Ellen Selgrade. Despite her long battle with multiple sclerosis, Annie remained a beacon of warmth and positivity, leaving a lasting impact on everyone she met.
Annie was beloved in her community, earning the nickname “the Mayor of Shenny” for her welcoming nature. She had a unique ability to engage friends and visitors alike with her vibrant stories and infectious laughter. Her passion for sports was evident, as she never missed a Penn State football game, and she cherished her afternoons spent with her pets, Frisco and Felicia.
The bond between Annie and her sister Mary was profound. They shared a lifelong friendship, living together as roommates and supporting each other through life’s ups and downs. Their relationship was characterized by a deep love, laughter, and understanding that few experience.
Annie’s legacy extends to her family, especially her nieces and nephews, who each felt like her favorite. She brought joy and laughter into their lives, creating cherished memories that will endure. Her playful spirit and warm hugs will be deeply missed by those who knew her.
Born to the late Thomas and Loretta Kleha Flannery, Annie was a proud graduate of Cardinal Brennan High School, Penn State University (BS), and Bloomsburg University (MS). She worked as a certified Reading Specialist, contributing her skills to the parochial schools in Shenandoah.
Annie is survived by her sister Mary, brothers Francis, Michael, and John, along with his wife, Maria. She is also remembered by her cousin Ellen and her husband Bo, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and their children, including Thomas (Tip) Flannery, Megan and Pete Pierangeli with their children, and many others.
Visitation and Funeral Details
A visitation will take place on August 11, 2025, from 08:30 to 10:30 hours at the Oravitz Home for Funerals, located at 40 N. Jardin St., Shenandoah. Following the visitation, a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 hours at Divine Mercy Parish – Sacred Worship Site – St. Casimir’s, officiated by the Very Rev. James J. Koury. Annie will be laid to rest in the Annunciation BVM Cemetery in Shenandoah Heights.
Annie’s passing is felt not only by her family but also by her many friends and neighbors, as well as the Flannery and Kleha cousins. The family expresses their gratitude to the numerous caregivers who supported Annie and Mary throughout the years. In lieu of flowers, they request donations be made to the Father Walter Ciszek Chapel, a significant place connected to Annie’s family history.
As the community gathers to honor her memory, Annie Flannery will be remembered for her indomitable spirit, generous heart, and the joy she brought to countless lives. Her legacy of love and laughter will continue to resonate in the hearts of those she touched.
