Channel Elston has secured her position as the new Ward 1 representative in South Euclid, Ohio, defeating incumbent Mark McMillian in the election held on November 4, 2025. Elston garnered 665 votes, representing 61.7 percent of the total, while McMillian received 413 votes, or 38.3 percent, according to unofficial results from the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections.
Elston’s Vision for Ward 1
In a statement following her victory, Elston expressed gratitude to the residents of Ward 1, emphasizing the importance of community trust. “This victory is more than a win; it’s a testament to faith, hard work, and community,” she said. Elston, who has served as an at-large council member since March 2020, highlighted her commitment to leading with compassion and integrity as she transitions to her new role.
“As we close out 2025, I’m reminded that we are all God’s children, deserving of respect, opportunity, and hope,” she added. Elston reassured constituents that her focus would be on representing everyone in the ward, stating, “I’m here to do a job, not keep a job. Together, we’ll keep building a stronger, more united community rooted in service and love for one another.”
Changes in South Euclid’s Council Composition
Elston’s election sets the stage for further changes within the South Euclid City Council. She is expected to assume her new duties in January, which will leave her at-large seat vacant. The council will need to appoint a new member to fill this position during the same month.
Justin Tisdale, the current Council President, was elected unopposed for the Ward 2 councilman position on the same day. Tisdale’s continued leadership ensures stability within the council as it adapts to recent changes. Meanwhile, Len Calabrese, who temporarily filled the Ward 2 seat after the resignation of former councilman Joseph Frank due to health issues, has also concluded his term.
Mark McMillian, who was appointed as the Ward 1 councilman in June after Ruth Gray’s resignation, expressed his thoughts on the election results through an artistic photograph he shared, captioned, “Help others rise, and you’ll never fall.” His tenure, although brief, included a bid for a full four-year term, which ultimately did not succeed.
Additionally, other council members, including Ward 3 Councilwoman Sara Continenza and Ward 4 Councilman John Fahsbender, were returned to office without opposition, ensuring continuity in their respective wards.
As South Euclid prepares for this new chapter, the community looks forward to Elston’s leadership and the changes it will bring to Ward 1. Elston’s commitment to service and unity promises to foster an inclusive environment for all residents.
