Central UMC Hosts Second Annual Night to Shine for Special Needs

On February 13, 2026, Central United Methodist Church will host its second annual “Night to Shine” event, a celebration dedicated to individuals with special needs. In collaboration with the Tim Tebow Foundation, the church aims to provide a night filled with joy and recognition for participants throughout East Mississippi and West Alabama.

This free event is designed for individuals with disabilities aged 14 and older, inviting them to partake in a global celebration of love and acceptance. Guests will enjoy a range of activities including hair and makeup stations, shoeshines, and the presentation of corsages and boutonnieres. A key highlight of the evening will be a Red Carpet Entrance, complete with cheering crowds and photographers.

A Night Full of Activities and Recognition

After the grand entrance, attendees can partake in karaoke, receive gifts, and enjoy a catered dinner. The event also features a sensory room and a respite room for parents and caregivers, ensuring a comfortable atmosphere for all. The celebration culminates in a crowning ceremony where each guest is honored as a king or queen, reflecting their inherent worth as viewed through the lens of faith.

The inaugural event in 2025 received positive feedback, with Sabrina Williams, the Event Coordinator, noting the overwhelming enthusiasm from guests, volunteers, and caregivers alike. “The smiles on their faces gave every parent and caregiver, every volunteer, a sense of joy and gratitude for this special night,” she expressed.

“This was the best night of my life!”

A testament to the event’s impact came from a guest at the 2025 celebration. Over 100 volunteers from various churches and organizations contributed to the success of the event, demonstrating a community commitment to inclusivity and support.

How to Get Involved

Those interested in volunteering, sponsoring, or donating to the Night to Shine event can reach out to Central United Methodist Church at 601-693-1521 or visit the Night to Shine-Meridian Facebook page for additional information. Donations can also be made through the Community Foundation of East Mississippi, ensuring that this meaningful celebration continues to flourish.

A previous volunteer encapsulated the experience perfectly: “If you think you are blessing our guests by volunteering, guess what? You are the one who will be blessed! Come join the fun! There is a spot just for you!”

The Night to Shine event represents not only a night of celebration but also a commitment to recognizing and honoring the lives of individuals with special needs. As the community comes together once more, the spirit of inclusivity and joy promises to shine brightly on this special evening.
