Louis R. “Lou” DiCerbo, a cherished member of the Schenectady community, passed away on January 7, 2026, at the age of 95. His death at Ellis Hospital marks the end of a life dedicated to family, service, and the art of photography.
Born in Schenectady to the late Pasquale and Elvira Riccio DiCerbo, Lou spent decades working as a photographer for the General Electric Company. He later retired from the Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory, where his contributions to the field of photography were well-regarded.
A Legacy of Service and Generosity
Beyond his professional achievements, Lou was known for his extensive volunteer work. He dedicated his time to the Schenectady City Mission, where he made a significant impact on the lives of those in need. Additionally, Lou took it upon himself to deliver bread from local bakeries, including Perreca’s and Panera Bread, to various organizations such as the former Carmelite Monastery, the Emergency Room at Ellis Hospital, and battered women’s shelters.
Lou’s contributions were not just limited to his community service. He was widely recognized for his warmth, humor, and generosity, qualities that endeared him to many. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Rose DiCerbo, three children—Louis DiCerbo (married to Robin Stafford, DMD) of Western Springs, Illinois, Margaret Golden (married to Patrick) of Niskayuna, and Marina DiCerbo of San Francisco, California. He also leaves behind one sister, Esther Graham, and three grandchildren: Andrew, Olivia, and Dan. He was predeceased by his sister, Margaret Gray.
Memorial Services and Tributes
Friends and family can pay their respects during calling hours on January 12, 2026, from 16:00 to 19:00 at the Gleason Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on January 13 at 11:00 at St. Anthony’s Church. Burial will follow at St. Anthony’s Cemetery in Glenville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Schenectady City Mission, located at 425 Hamilton St., Schenectady, NY 12305. Lou will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and the many individuals whose lives he touched through his acts of kindness.
