Jean Aabo, a cherished member of the Charlton, New York community, passed away on November 25, 2025, at the age of 78. Her life was marked by strong family bonds, a passion for service, and adventurous travels that took her around the globe.
Born on July 4, 1947, in Westwood, New Jersey, Jean was the daughter of Kathryn and Paul Falotico. She spent her formative years in New Jersey before attending the University of Copenhagen in Denmark during her junior year of college. It was here, in February 1968, that she met her husband, Torben Aabo. The couple celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary this year, and together they raised two children, Christina and David, at their beloved Sweetman Farm.
Family life was central to Jean’s existence. She and Torben shared many joyful moments with their children, immersing themselves in 4-H activities and making maple syrup. As the family grew, they enjoyed numerous trips together, visiting locations such as Denmark, Hawaii, Argentina, and Mexico. Jean found immense joy in her role as a grandmother to Max and Beckett, cherishing the time spent together during family meals and gatherings.
Beyond her family, Jean had a profound love for dogs. She dedicated significant time to training her pets, Carob, Kiffa, and Cooper, for obedience competitions, achieving commendable success that included several blue ribbons. Yet, the companionship these dogs provided remained her greatest treasure.
Jean’s adventurous spirit led her to partake in thrilling activities such as whitewater rafting on the Colorado River, hot air ballooning in New Mexico, riding a camel in Morocco, and fishing for tiger fish in the Zambezi River in Africa. Her travels allowed her to embrace diverse cultures and connect with people from varied backgrounds, transcending language barriers.
In addition to her personal pursuits, Jean was deeply involved in her community. She hosted children from New York City, volunteered in elementary schools, and was an active member of the Board of The Charlton School. Her service extended to organizations such as the Schenectady City Mission, where she helped serve meals to the elderly. A devoted member of Ballston Center Church, Jean’s faith in Jesus Christ influenced her commitment to various ministries, and she served as a church deaconess.
A Celebration of Life for Jean Aabo will take place at the Ballston Center Church located at 58 Charlton Road, Ballston Spa, New York, on December 3, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. Following the service, a reception will be held at the church. The family will privately bury Jean at Sweetman Cemetery in Charlton.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Schenectady City Mission, located at 425 Hamilton Street, Schenectady, NY 12305. Arrangements for Jean’s services have been entrusted to Townley & Wheeler Funeral Home, which encourages friends and family to leave messages in her Book of Memories at www.TownleyWheelerFH.com.
Jean Aabo’s legacy will be remembered through her devotion to family, her contributions to the community, and the love she shared with all who knew her.
