James H. Greene, a cherished figure in Bay Village and a dedicated barber, passed away on December 2, 2025, at the age of 88. Born on October 5, 1937, in Olive Hill, Kentucky, he was known for his warm demeanor and infectious sense of humor, traits that endeared him to many over the years.
Greene spent a significant part of his life as a barber, forging lasting relationships with his clients. His skill and personal touch in the barbering profession made his shop a welcoming place for the community. Beyond his professional life, Greene proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1955 to 1959, including sea duty in the Atlantic and a station in Naples, Italy. This military service was a source of immense pride for him, shaping his character and values throughout his life.
Family and Legacy
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Phillistine Greene (nee Hobbs), along with his two sons, Randy and Charles Greene (Vicki), and his grandson, Matthew Greene. Greene’s family also includes several nieces and a nephew: Terrisa Rudolph (Jay), Judy Howard (Mark), and James Blankenship (Teresa).
Preceding him in death were his parents, Nora Clay and James H. Greene Sr., his stepfather Wiley Birchfield, his sister Annie Jane and her husband Lacy Blankenship, his brother Billy R. Greene, and his nephew Billy W. Blankenship.
In keeping with Greene’s wishes, there will be no formal service held. Arrangements have been entrusted to Andras Crematory & Funeral Home in Lorain.
James H. Greene will be remembered not only for his contributions to his community but also for the deep bonds he formed and the joy he brought to those around him. His legacy of kindness and service will remain in the hearts of his family and friends.
