The Alice + Olivia Fall 2026 Ready-to-Wear collection, presented by designer Stacey Bendet, debuted at the Surrogate’s Court in Lower Manhattan, showcasing a stunning array of designs inspired by the transformative power of artificial intelligence. Dubbed “The Gilded Age,” the collection draws parallels between the current technological revolution and the historical period known for its opulence and innovation.
During the presentation, Bendet emphasized the role of AI in her creative process, referring to it as an “inspiration revolution.” She noted that the technology informs various aspects of her business, from design to merchandising. In design, AI aids in creating photo-realistic interpretations of patterns, particularly for intricate embroidery. “We used AI to take things that we had sketched, rendered, worked on for prints, to then make into these photo-real versions that we could execute,” she explained.
The collection is characterized by a bold aesthetic filled with extreme embellishments, reflecting themes of indulgence and maximalism. Bendet described her vision as one driven by glamour, beadwork, and embroidery. Almost every piece features some form of decoration, ranging from rhinestones to lace, echoing the lavishness associated with the Gilded Age.
Design Elements and Inspirations
Bendet’s designs also carry a distinct nod to contemporary fashion trends, incorporating elements reminiscent of the 2010s. The collection features high-low silhouettes and leopard prints, which contrast with more traditional Gilded Age motifs. “I wanted to bring back the whole concept of the ‘going-out top,’ whether it’s in crystal, corset, one-shoulder,” she stated, introducing a modern twist to classic styles. Many of these tops are styled with corset trousers and pinstripe pants, aligning with the era’s blend of workwear and evening attire.
Among the standout pieces is a black jacquard column dress, notable for its detachable train, and another adorned with a significant white bow at the back, a possible homage to the bustle that defined Gilded Age fashion. These innovative interpretations highlight Bendet’s ability to merge historical references with contemporary flair, making the collection not only visually striking but also relevant to today’s fashion landscape.
As the fashion industry continues to grapple with the implications of AI, Bendet’s approach illustrates a proactive embrace of technology, showcasing how it can enhance creativity rather than diminish it. With her Fall 2026 collection, she invites audiences to consider the intersection of tradition and innovation, challenging perceptions of what modern luxury can encompass.
The Alice + Olivia Fall 2026 collection is poised to make a significant impact, not just on the runway but also within the broader conversation about the future of fashion in an era increasingly influenced by technology.
