Vitalant Launches Blood Drives in November with $10,000 Prize

Vitalant is set to organize multiple blood drives throughout November, providing an opportunity for two lucky donors to win a **$10,000 prepaid gift card**. This initiative comes at a critical time, as blood donations are essential, with someone in the United States requiring blood every two seconds, according to a recent announcement from the nonprofit organization.

As the holiday season approaches, blood donations typically decline due to busy schedules. Vitalant emphasizes the need for all blood types, particularly **O-positive**, which is the most common blood type and can assist anyone with a positive blood type.

Addressing Critical Needs

November is also recognized as **National Prematurity Awareness Month**, highlighting the importance of blood donations for premature infants. Many of these infants suffer from anemia and may require blood transfusions. According to the **National Institute of Health**, up to **80%** of extremely preterm infants receive at least one blood transfusion during their hospital stay.

Vitalant operates a blood donation center at **1213 21st St. in Lewiston**, where community members can contribute to this vital cause. In addition to the Lewiston center, several blood drives will take place in various towns across the region, providing ample opportunities for individuals to donate.
