The SGMC Health Foundation has funded a new 2025 Starcraft Bus to enhance mobility for residents of SGMC Health Villa, a skilled nursing facility located in Lakeland. This initiative aims to provide safe and comfortable transportation, enabling residents to engage in various activities outside the facility.
Improving Access for Residents
The newly acquired bus features seating for 12 passengers and includes two wheelchair positions, ensuring that all residents can participate in outings and appointments. This development is particularly significant for residents with mobility needs, as it opens opportunities for scenic drives, local events, and medical visits. The healthcare organization emphasized the importance of this transportation option in a recent press release.
“Reliable transportation is essential to maintaining the dignity, independence, and well-being of our residents,” stated Hilary Gibbs, vice president of support services and chief development officer. “This bus represents our commitment to improving the lives of those we serve and supporting the caregivers who make it all possible. And let’s be honest — everyone enjoys a new ride, no matter their age!”
Supporting Care and Services
In addition to serving Villa residents, the bus will also assist the SGMC Health Non-Emergency Transport team during peak workloads and support SGMC Health Lanier transports as necessary. This dual purpose increases the efficiency of transportation services, ensuring that both residents and staff have reliable access to essential travel options.
SGMC Health Villa is a 62-bed skilled nursing facility dedicated to providing compassionate care in a warm, home-like environment. The facility offers a range of services, including short-term rehabilitation, long-term care, and hospice services, all tailored to meet the individual needs of residents.
