The Mehan family mourns the passing of John Jude Mehan, affectionately known as Jack, who died on September 3, 2025, at Samaritan Hospital in Troy, NY. Jack faced a two-year battle with illness, exhibiting remarkable courage and maintaining his signature smile and humor throughout his journey.
Born on November 20, 1954, to William and Mary Mehan, Jack was a resident of Troy, where he grew up at 149 Blooming Grove Drive. He was a proud graduate of St. Jude’s Elementary School in Wynantskill and Catholic Central High School in Troy. Jack leaves behind his twin sister, Julia (Jill) Mehan, along with numerous family members, including his maternal aunt Jeanne Waldron, siblings M. Veigh Mehan (Johanna and Rose), William Mehan (Audra, Mary Adele, Katharine, Iola), Betsy Hughes (Bruce) and their children, and Jerry Mehan (Aidan, Emmett, Conor).
Jack dedicated thirty years to the wine and spirits industry, serving as a Senior Sales Manager for several companies, including Graves and Rodgers Liquor Company, Eber Bros, and Opici Wines. He was a certified Sommelier known for his expert decision-making, reliability, and high standards.
Beyond his professional achievements, Jack cherished time spent with family and friends. His passions included watching football games, restoring his home, and participating in activities such as walking, tennis, racquetball, swimming, kayaking, and travel.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Jack’s close friends who provided invaluable support during his illness. Jack and Ellen Pagano, Lynn Rondeau, and Sid and Roseanne Sharpe assisted with medical appointments and offered companionship during Jack’s final hours.
To honor Jack’s memory, a Celebration of Life will be held at the American Legion located at 1 American Legion Road, Stillwater, NY. The event is scheduled for Friday, September 26, 2025, and will be an open house from 14:00 to 19:00. All who knew Jack are welcome to attend and celebrate his life.
As the Mehan family reflects on Jack’s legacy, they will remember his unwavering spirit and the joy he brought to those around him.
