The Northeast Regional Cancer Institute has announced the election of its new board officers, marking a significant shift in leadership as of March 2026. Dr. Maria Montoro Edwards has been elected as chair of the board, with David Grega serving as vice chair, Holly Roever Carron as secretary, and John Ruddy as treasurer. This new leadership team brings a wealth of experience from various sectors, positioning the institute for continued impact in cancer care.
Dr. Montoro Edwards serves as president and CEO of Maternal and Family Health Services. With a focus on building organizational capacity, she is dedicated to enhancing the sustainability and growth of initiatives that benefit women, children, and families. Her roles extend beyond her position at the institute; she co-chairs the Perinatal Action Collaborative and is a member of the Pennsylvania Maternal Mortality Review Committee, as well as the boards of the PA Alliance of Family Planning Councils and Telespond Senior Services.
David Grega holds the position of corporate controller at Medico Construction Equipment Inc., where he oversees all accounting and financial operations. With a rich background in public accounting, Grega previously served as a director at McGrail Merkel Quinn & Associates PC, accumulating 16 years of experience. A resident of Shavertown, he remains active in his community, serving on the board of NeighborWorks NEPA, participating in the Knights of Columbus, and volunteering as a youth sports coach for local leagues.
Holly Roever Carron is the president of HW Roever Inc., a family-operated real estate holding company and former Dunkin’ franchisee. She graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a bachelor’s degree in marketing and international business. Carron is involved in various organizations, chairing the board at St. Joseph’s Center, which supports individuals with intellectual disabilities, and sitting on the Family Business Alliance board. Recently, she has ventured into college admissions as a first reader at the University of Miami.
John Ruddy serves as an associate professor of finance in the Economics and Finance Department at the University of Scranton. He teaches both undergraduate and graduate finance courses and holds multiple credentials, including Certified Public Accountant and Chartered Financial Analyst designations. Ruddy has been recognized four times by the university for his teaching excellence, receiving accolades such as the Kania School of Management Outstanding Professor in 2013 and 2017, and the Teacher of the Year Award in 2014.
The board’s new leadership represents a blend of backgrounds and expertise that the Northeast Regional Cancer Institute hopes will foster innovative approaches in cancer care and community outreach. As they embark on this new chapter, the institute is poised to enhance its mission and expand its positive impact within the region.
