Kaweah Health has announced a significant update to its visitor policy, allowing overnight visitors to stay with patients. This new initiative aims to enhance patient comfort and support during hospital stays. The policy also expands visitor capacity in the emergency department and treatment rooms.
According to Marc Mertz, Chief Strategy Officer at Kaweah Health, “We understand that being in the hospital can be stressful for patients, and having their support system at their bedside helps them feel more comfortable and supported during their care.” By permitting overnight visits, the hospital seeks to foster a healing environment that acknowledges the critical role family members play in patient recovery.
Under the revised policy, overnight visitors must be at least 18 years old and must acquire an overnight visitor badge before the hospital’s main entrance closes at 9 p.m. Reentry will not be allowed after this time, ensuring the safety and security of all patients and staff.
Expanded Visitor Allowances
In addition to the overnight policy, Kaweah Health is now allowing children to visit patients. However, children under the age of 15 must be accompanied by an adult. This change reflects the hospital’s commitment to family involvement in patient care, recognizing that children can also provide emotional support to patients.
Moreover, the hospital’s emergency department will now admit up to four visitors in the waiting room, while two visitors may accompany patients into treatment rooms. These adjustments are designed to create a more supportive atmosphere for those receiving care.
It’s important to note that if hallway beds or chairs are being utilized, only one visitor will be allowed to remain with the patient. The number of visitors permitted will also depend on the current patient volume in the emergency department.
Mertz emphasized the importance of family presence during hospital stays, stating, “These new guidelines were written with the well-being of our patients and staff in mind. We recognize that working with family members can enhance the care and support our patients receive when they return home.”
This policy change reflects Kaweah Health’s ongoing commitment to improving patient experience and care outcomes. By introducing these new visitor guidelines, the hospital aims to ensure that patients feel supported during their treatment, ultimately enhancing their recovery journey.
