Edward Eugene Hosey Jr., affectionately known as Ned, passed away unexpectedly on November 26, 2025, at the age of 78. His death followed ongoing health issues, leaving behind a legacy of family, friendship, and dedicated service in his professional life.
Ned is survived by his three sons: Edward E. Hosey III and his wife Denise, Richard Jeffrey Hosey, and David Gilroy Hosey alongside his wife Kat. He also leaves behind four grandchildren: Evelyn, Hannah, Connor, and Gil Hosey. His family circle includes his sister, Patricia Kosloski; uncle, Andrew Jack Barry; nieces Colleen Roundhill and Leigh Thering; and grandnephews River and Owen Thering. His partner of over 30 years, Carol Sorber, was also a significant part of his life.
Early Life and Career
Born and raised in Plymouth, Pennsylvania, Ned graduated from St. Vincent’s High School in 1965. His early years were marked by athletic pursuits, particularly in baseball and basketball, where he showcased his talents as a pitcher. He furthered his education at Misericordia University, which laid the foundation for a successful career as a skilled tradesman.
Ned’s professional journey included notable roles such as a commercial contractor, FEMA Inspector, and Gas Field Electrical Inspector. He dedicated much of his career to FEMA, where he was recognized for his strong leadership and calm demeanor during emergencies. His contributions to disaster relief efforts were invaluable, impacting countless individuals and communities.
Passions and Community Involvement
Beyond his professional achievements, Ned was remembered as an avid hunter and outdoorsman. He was particularly known for his culinary skills, with family and friends often praising his famous chili and spaghetti sauce. His commitment to community extended to his role as an usher at Our Lady of Victory Church.
A lifelong sports enthusiast, Ned was a devoted fan of both Penn State and the New York Yankees. He frequently attended Penn State games, sharing his enthusiasm with fellow fans. His grandchildren were a central part of his life, and he took great joy in attending their sporting events, especially those of his grandsons, Gil and Connor.
The family has chosen to grieve privately during this time. Plans for a celebration of Ned’s life are underway, with details to be shared as they become available. His memory will continue to inspire those who knew him, marking a profound impact on his community and family.
