Linda Barrett, a cherished mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on January 24, 2026, after a courageous 17-year battle with stage-four lung disease. She was 77 years old at the time of her passing, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and resilience.
Born on April 7, 1948, in Los Angeles, Linda was the daughter of Dick and Emily Barrett. Her childhood in an athletic family was filled with adventure, including snow skiing, water skiing, boating, swimming, and playing tennis. She grew up in Toluca Lake, located in the San Fernando Valley, before attending Hollywood High School. Linda later graduated magna cum laude from Woodbury University, setting the foundation for her successful career.
Following her marriage, Linda moved to Santa Barbara, where she became known as Linda Dierenfield. She was the devoted mother of two children, Darcie and Devin. After becoming a single mother when her children were just three and four years old, Linda embraced her role with unwavering dedication for the next 18 years.
Linda’s career in real estate flourished, and she achieved remarkable success as the top agent in her company for multiple years. Alongside her professional endeavors, she committed herself to community service, actively participating in numerous charities and chairing significant events. Her contributions to the community showcased her passion for helping others.
In 1994, Linda remarried and discovered a new love for the game of golf. Although the marriage ultimately ended, her enthusiasm for golf endured. She became a member of La Cumbre Country Club and enjoyed a second home in Rancho Mirage, where she participated in three women’s golf groups.
Linda was not one to shy away from challenges. She took part in various triathlons and Ironman events, approaching each with a “do the best you can” attitude that defined her approach to work, sports, and life.
She is survived by her daughter, Darcie McKnight, and her partner Thomas Dabney; her son, Devin Dierenfield, and his wife Milena; her grandchildren, Maizie McKnight, Barrett McKnight, and Luca Dierenfield; her brother, Rick Barrett; and her niece, Amy Barrett.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital Pulmonary Department. Linda Barrett will be remembered for her vibrant spirit and the love she shared with those around her. Her legacy will continue to inspire those who knew her.
