On October 13, 2023, Colorado Representative Dusty Johnson visited the Salud Family Health Center and the Fort Morgan High School Health Center in Fort Morgan, Colorado, to gain insights into the organization’s efforts to provide accessible and affordable health care in the region. This visit highlighted the significant role that community health centers play in addressing health care needs in rural areas.
Focus on Health Care Access
During his visit, Johnson toured the facilities and engaged in discussions with Salud staff regarding the challenges faced by community health centers, particularly in maintaining access to primary care services in rural Colorado. The conversations were centered on the funding issues that often hinder these centers from operating effectively.
“Salud is proud to serve northeastern Colorado. We appreciate our legislators, who look for solutions to protect health care access,” said John Santistevan, President and CEO of Salud Family Health. Johnson’s visit was described as a vital step toward emphasizing the necessity for ongoing investments in rural and school-based health services.
Integrated Care for All Ages
The Fort Morgan Salud Clinic and the Fort Morgan High School Health Center are part of a network of 13 Salud sites across the state, all dedicated to providing integrated care to their communities. The school-based clinic, located on the premises of Fort Morgan High School, offers comprehensive health services tailored for children and adolescents, focusing on their physical and emotional well-being throughout the academic year.
In addition to supporting younger populations, the Fort Morgan Salud Clinic serves individuals of all ages, including newborns, children, teens, adults, and seniors. The clinic provides a wide array of services including medical, dental, pharmacy, and behavioral health care. Notably, Salud accepts various insurance plans, including Medicaid, Medicare, CHIP, and most private insurance options, ensuring that financial barriers do not prevent access to essential health services.
For those in need of assistance with insurance enrollment, resources are readily available at Salud clinics. Individuals interested in supporting Salud’s mission can find more information and donation options by visiting saludclinic.org.
As discussions around health care accessibility continue, Johnson’s engagement with Salud underscores the vital connection between local leaders and health care providers in ensuring that all residents, especially in underserved areas, can receive the care they need.
