Canadian rock band Triumph is set to embark on a highly anticipated tour for the first time in over three decades, celebrating their 50th anniversary. The tour will kick off next month, featuring a concert at the Darien Lake Amphitheater in Upstate New York on June 3, 2026. The band will be joined by fellow Canadian rock group April Wine, who will open the show at 20:00.
This tour marks a significant moment for Triumph, featuring an expanded lineup that includes original members Rik Emmett, Mike Levine, and Gil Moore, alongside new contributors Brent Fitz, Todd Kerns, and Phil X. Fitz and Kerns are both seasoned musicians from Slash‘s solo band, while Phil X, who was part of Triumph in the 1990s, is currently known for his work with Bon Jovi.
Moore confirmed that Emmett and himself will perform at every show. He acknowledged Levine’s health challenges but expressed optimism about his participation, stating, “Mike wants to be there. He’s got the spirit and the will.” Moore emphasized the importance of the expanded lineup, noting that Fitz, Kerns, and X are “not sidemen” but accomplished musicians in their own right. He remarked, “We would be idiots not to let them shine in this show.”
Triumph was founded in 1975 near Toronto and gained fame with hits such as “Lay It On the Line” and “Magic Power.” The band achieved early success by breaking into the U.S. market, particularly in Western New York, leading to their recognition with the Key to the City of Buffalo in 1981. Moore reminisced about their early days, stating, “We were basically three kids… pestering promoters in Buffalo and Detroit.”
Over the years, Triumph released nine albums during the ’70s and ’80s. Emmett departed in 1988 to pursue a solo career, and the band went on hiatus in 1993 after releasing their final album with Emmett. They were later inducted into the Canadian Music Industry Hall of Fame in 2007 and the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 2008.
Excitement surrounding the upcoming tour has been palpable, particularly with the recent tribute album “Magic Power: All-Star Tribute to Triumph,” featuring notable artists like Slash, Nancy Wilson, and Dee Snider. Kerns, who is also part of the tour, emphasized the authenticity of the performance, suggesting that the band chose to enhance their lineup rather than rely on backing tracks.
Kerns stated, “It’s an ongoing work in progress. Rik and Gil will be on stage nightly. Mike will be there when he can.” He expressed enthusiasm for the innovative direction of the tour, comparing the dual drummer setup to that of other iconic bands. “Even Don Henley has a second drummer with the Eagles,” he noted, highlighting the trend among veteran bands to evolve their performances.
