Legendary singer-songwriter Todd Snider has died at the age of 59. His passing was announced on November 15, 2023, through an emotional Instagram post from his label, Aimless, Inc.. The statement described Snider as “our Folk Hero, our Poet of the World,” and expressed deep sorrow over the loss of a cherished figure in the music community.
While the exact cause of death has not been disclosed, Snider’s family shared that he was suffering from pneumonia at the time of his passing. They explained in a post that he had experienced difficulty breathing and was admitted to a hospital in Hendersonville, TN. “We learned from his doctors that he had been quietly suffering from an undiagnosed case of walking pneumonia,” they noted.
In the weeks leading up to his death, Snider had canceled several tour dates due to injuries sustained during a violent incident outside a hotel. According to an arrest affidavit obtained by TMZ, Snider was hospitalized for these injuries. Following his discharge, he was arrested for disorderly conduct, reportedly expressing frustration towards hospital staff for releasing him too soon.
Afterward, while still recovering from his injuries, Snider was readmitted to the hospital where doctors diagnosed him with pneumonia. This unfortunate turn of events ultimately led to his untimely death.
Snider was celebrated for his unique blend of folk, rock, and country music, characterized by his witty and poignant storytelling. His career, which spanned several decades, was launched with the release of his debut album, “Songs for the Daily Planet,” in 1994. This album catapulted him into the Americana and alt-country music scenes, where he became a beloved figure known for his heartfelt lyrics and engaging performances.
