Ruth K. Nawyn, a talented musician and dedicated member of her community, passed away on October 31, 2025, at the age of 93. Known for her exceptional musical abilities, she played the Eb horn for the Salvation Army Band and contributed to church choirs from the young age of five. Her commitment to music and her faith defined much of her life.
Born and raised in a Presbyterian household, Ruth was actively involved with the Presbyterian Woman and served as a bookkeeper for St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Suffolk, where she made many lasting friendships. Ruth’s musical journey spanned decades, enriching the lives of those around her with performances on the piano and through her singing.
Ruth was predeceased by her husband of 68 years, Bernard “Barney” L. Nawyn, and her son Kenneth Nawyn, along with his wife, Rochelle Nawyn. She is survived by her daughter, Cathy Nawyn Weitekamp, and her husband Anthony Weitekamp. Additionally, she leaves behind her granddaughter, Chantel Nawyn, and her husband, Bill Belcourt, along with her grandson, Eric Nawyn, and great-grandson, Aiden Belcourt.
Memorial Service Details
In honor of Ruth’s life and contributions, a memorial service will be held at 2 PM on November 9, 2025, at Green Acres Presbyterian Church. The community invites all who knew and loved Ruth to celebrate her remarkable legacy through music and fellowship.
