Netflix is set to remove five superhero films from its platform in January 2026 as part of a larger shake-up that will see over 100 titles leave the streaming service. Among the films exiting are notable entries from both DC and Marvel, including Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom and Blue Beetle.
The decision comes in light of Netflix’s ongoing strategy to refresh its catalog with new content while bidding farewell to older titles. According to a recent update from What’s On Netflix, the streaming giant is prioritizing the introduction of new superhero films, leading to the departure of popular titles that have already made their mark.
Key Titles Leaving Netflix
One of the most significant films being removed is Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, featuring Jason Momoa. Released in 2023, this film marked the last entry in the now-defunct DC Extended Universe (DCEU). Despite high expectations, it struggled to replicate the success of its predecessor, ultimately earning a disappointing $440 million at the global box office, according to data from Box Office Mojo.
Another notable departure is Blue Beetle, starring Xolo Maridueña. This film, directed by Ángel Manuel Soto, introduced audiences to a beloved superhero within the DCEU framework and will also be unavailable after January 2026.
From the Marvel side, Netflix will part ways with Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, featuring Nicolas Cage, and the 2003 film Hulk. Notably, neither title is part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), instead presenting unique storylines centered around their respective characters. Ang Lee‘s Hulk was the character’s initial full-length film adaptation, while Spirit of Vengeance served as the second installment in Sony Pictures’ Ghost Rider series.
Additionally, Kick-Ass 2 will also be leaving the platform, rounding out the list of superhero films that subscribers will no longer have access to come next month.
Other Departing Titles
The removal of these superhero movies is part of a broader exodus of content from Netflix. Other notable titles set to leave include 8 Mile, Doctor Sleep, Hancock, Terminator 2, and Mad Max: Fury Road. As Netflix continues to evolve its library, subscribers should take note of these changes and watch any films they wish to see before they disappear.
This announcement serves as a reminder of the ever-changing landscape of streaming services, where titles come and go frequently. Fans of superhero films, particularly those within the DCEU and Marvel realms, may want to act quickly to enjoy these films before they exit Netflix’s offerings in January 2026.
