The Japanese idol girl group my fav has announced their disbandment following a series of rebranding attempts. In a statement shared on social media on January 6, 2026, the group revealed that they would conclude their activities in March after a tumultuous journey that included multiple lineup changes and a shift in direction.
Initially debuting as Last Idol in 2017, the group faced challenges that culminated in a hiatus in March 2022, largely attributed to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. After a year of inactivity, in March 2023, they announced a revival under the name SHINSEI LAST IDOL, introducing a fresh lineup and a new producer. This revitalization led to a brief resurgence, with the group restarting their activities in September 2023.
In June 2024, they changed their name to my fav, but the new branding did not stabilize the group. Despite the hopes of their fans, the management’s recent decision to disband was made to allow members to pursue their individual career goals without the constraints of the group dynamic.
The announcement has elicited mixed reactions from fans. Some expressed disappointment over the group’s disbandment, having hoped for a stable future without further upheaval. Others have voiced their support for the decision, recognizing the importance of individual aspirations for the members of my fav.
As the group prepares for their final activities in March, the impact of their journey resonates with both their loyal fanbase and the broader idol culture in Japan. The disbandment marks the end of an era for a group that has seen significant transformations in a relatively short period.
