Guns N’ Roses Set to Rock New Shakopee Amphitheater on August 8

Legendary rock band Guns N’ Roses will perform at the new Mystic Lake Amphitheater in Shakopee, Minnesota, on August 8, 2024. This highly anticipated concert marks another chapter in the band’s storied history, which has captivated audiences for decades. Tickets for the event will go on sale at 10:00 on December 5, 2023, through Ticketmaster, with a presale available for registered fans starting December 3.

Formed in 1985, Guns N’ Roses emerged from the vibrant Los Angeles rock scene. The band quickly gained recognition after signing with Geffen Records and releasing their debut album, “Appetite for Destruction,” in the summer of 1987. This groundbreaking album featured five hit singles, including the iconic ballad “Sweet Child o’ Mine,” and has since sold over 18 million copies in the United States alone.

Following the success of “Appetite for Destruction,” Guns N’ Roses released the mini-album “G N’ R Lies” and the ambitious double albums “Use Your Illusion I” and “Use Your Illusion II” in 1991. These projects solidified their status as one of the most significant rock bands in history. However, internal conflicts began to emerge, leading to the departure of original members, including drummer Steven Adler in 1990 and guitarist Izzy Stradlin in 1991. As the years progressed, the lineup changed frequently, leaving lead singer Axl Rose as the sole original member for an extended period.

In 2001, Guns N’ Roses resumed touring with a new lineup, which included Tommy Stinson on bass from 1998 to 2014. The band played multiple concerts at the Target Center in Minneapolis between 2002 and 2011, drawing around 8,000 fans each time.

After years of speculation about a reunion, it was confirmed in early 2016 that original guitarist Slash and bassist Duff McKagan would join Axl Rose for a tour, their first together since 1993. This tour, which began in April 2016, grossed over $584 million, showcasing the enduring popularity of the band. In July 2017, they headlined U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis before returning to the area in September 2021 to perform at the former Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.

The upcoming concert at the Mystic Lake Amphitheater will be Guns N’ Roses’ fourth tour since the reunion. Fans will also see the debut of new drummer Isaac Carpenter, who replaces Frank Ferrer, marking a fresh chapter for the band. Adding to the excitement, Guns N’ Roses will release two new songs, “Nothin” and “Atlas,” on December 5, 2023, just in time for the concert announcement.

With a legacy that spans nearly four decades, Guns N’ Roses continues to draw fans from around the world, and their performance at the Mystic Lake Amphitheater promises to be a highlight of the summer concert season in Minnesota.
