Derek and Julianne Hough are set to launch a groundbreaking dance tour, titled Ovation by DanceOne, which aims to impart valuable life lessons through dance. The siblings, both seasoned performers from the popular show Dancing With the Stars, shared their insights on how dance shaped their lives during an interview with Us Weekly. Their journey began in Utah, where they trained together before competing internationally.
Derek Hough, 40, reflected on his upbringing in the dance studio, stating, “My coaches, my mentors, and a lot of the lessons that I’ve learned made me who I am today as a man and as a person.” This foundational experience not only honed his dance skills but also instilled resilience and tenacity. Julianne, 37, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing that their mentors taught them to embrace their uniqueness and add value to their performances.
Ovation Tour Promises Unique Experience for Young Dancers
The Ovation tour promises to blend traditional dance conventions with a full-scale competition format. Julianne described the initiative as a way to enrich the lives of young dancers, saying, “The essence of why we want to do this is to be able to serve and add value to the kids’ lives as a whole.”
The Houghs aim to create an engaging experience where participants and their families leave feeling inspired. Derek expressed his commitment, stating, “I’ll be there all three days,” highlighting the personal involvement he and Julianne will have in coaching during the convention classes. They will collaborate with other notable dancers, including Mark Ballas, Jenna Johnson, and Val Chmerkovskiy, as well as choreographer Robbie Blue.
Julianne noted that each city on the tour will offer a unique atmosphere, with plans to start in seven cities later this year. She mentioned, “Each one is going to feel super unique,” with tailored workshops and demonstrations that reflect local culture and talent.
Commitment to Elevating the Next Generation of Dancers
As the siblings prepare for the tour, they remain focused on their mission to give back to the dance community. Derek stated, “We’re here to give back and to serve these kids, and to teach and to really move them.” This commitment to nurturing young talent is central to the Houghs’ vision for Ovation.
Julianne emphasized the importance of selecting instructors who share their passion for elevating the students’ experiences. “We wanted to recruit people who are in this to elevate and improve these kids’ journeys,” she said. This approach aims to foster an environment that not only develops technical skills but also builds confidence and resilience among young dancers.
The Houghs’ dedication to their craft and their desire to support the next generation of dancers reflect their deep-rooted commitment to the art form. As they embark on this innovative tour, the siblings hope to inspire and empower aspiring dancers across the globe.
