DC Universe Underestimates Superman’s Original Foe, Ultra-Humanite

The DC Universe (DCU) recently faced criticism for its portrayal of one of Superman’s original adversaries, the Ultra-Humanite, in the latest episode of *Peacemaker*. As the series unfolds, it seems that the DCU has relegated this iconic villain to a mere footnote, raising questions about the direction of the franchise.

In the premiere of *Peacemaker* Season 2, the storyline briefly alludes to Ultra-Humanite, a character known for his cunning and intellect. While the series focuses primarily on Christopher Smith, a.k.a. Peacemaker, it hints at the existence of this formidable foe without providing the depth or significance that fans of the comics might expect. Instead of a serious contender, Ultra-Humanite is treated like a minor antagonist, a decision that has disappointed many enthusiasts of the DC lore.

Rostovic and Luthor Set the Stage

The episode begins with a showdown in *Creature Commandos* featuring Princess Ilana Rostovic, the ambitious leader of Pokolistan. Rostovic, whose aim is world domination, sets a grim tone for the villains of the DCU. Following her lead, Lex Luthor emerges in *Superman* with a less grandiose but equally sinister mission: instigating conflict abroad while endangering innocent lives, all to eliminate Superman.

While Luthor is often recognized as Superman’s principal adversary, the narrative overlooks the potential of Ultra-Humanite, who was the first villain conceived as a foil to the Man of Steel. Initially introduced as a brilliant scientist, Ultra-Humanite’s plans for domination consistently pushed Superman to his limits. His evolution into a character that can transfer his consciousness into an albino gorilla added layers to his menace, establishing him as a key player in the DC Universe’s rich tapestry of heroes and villains.

Missed Opportunities in Character Development

David Corenswet, who portrays Superman in the upcoming franchise, could have faced Ultra-Humanite early in his tenure, but this narrative path remains unexplored. The DCU’s decision to depict him as a lesser threat overlooks his historical significance. Instead, the show suggests that Peacemaker and his family possess the capability to outsmart him, which diminishes Ultra-Humanite’s reputation as a serious challenger.

This portrayal raises concerns about the future of the DCU. As fans await further developments, many are left wondering if the franchise will acknowledge Ultra-Humanite’s legacy and complexity or continue to sideline him.

With *Peacemaker* now streaming on HBO Max, viewers are invited to share their thoughts on the treatment of Ultra-Humanite. The conversation is ongoing, and the reception could influence how the DCU handles this character moving forward.

The legacy of Superman’s foes is rich with potential, and the DCU has an opportunity to delve deeper into its mythos. As it stands, the treatment of Ultra-Humanite leaves much to be desired, prompting fans to call for a more respectful and substantial portrayal of this underrated villain.
