The Creative Arts Guild in Dalton invites the public to a free gallery opening and artist reception on November 7, 2023, starting at 5:30 p.m. This engaging event features two prominent exhibitions: Melissa Herz’s “Finding Peace Through Color and Chaos” in Gallery 520 and “Prism Collective,” a collaborative display by six local artists in Gallery ONE11. Attendees will also enjoy an acoustic performance by musician Jason Lyles as part of his album release micro tour.
The evening will commence at 5:30 p.m. with complimentary light hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar, along with an arts-focused activity designed for children in attendance.
Exhibitions Highlight Artistic Diversity
“Finding Peace Through Color and Chaos” showcases new alcohol ink works by Herz, who describes the medium as “inherently challenging.” She explains that the “chaotic, fluid nature of alcohol ink must be expertly controlled to transform what is often a wild process into a work of art.” One of the featured pieces, “A Deep Breath,” encapsulates the exhibition’s theme, illustrating how tranquility can be discovered amidst disorder.
The “Prism Collective” comprises artists Ellen Anthony, Delyn Ellis, Cathy Holmes, Cindy McCreery, Linda Norman, and Kim Smith. Meeting bi-monthly at the Senior Citizen Center in Dalton, the group describes their mission as one of exploration and experimentation with various art forms. They aim to push boundaries, blend mediums, and express emotion, identity, and connection through their artwork. Formed organically over the past few years, the Collective began with two neighbors sharing a passion for art, gradually expanding to include additional local artists.
Collective member Linda Norman explains that the name “Prism” symbolizes the way a prism disperses light in different colors and directions, reflecting their artistic journey.
Musical Performance Adds to the Atmosphere
Chattanooga-based musician Jason Lyles will provide an acoustic set during the reception, creating an intimate, home studio-like atmosphere in the Guild conference room. Known for his indie rock sound, Lyles blends elements of alternative rock and Americana. He will also showcase original artwork created for his new album, “Suspensions of Disbelief,” along with designs from his previous albums.
