During a recent podcast appearance, actor Chris Pratt shared a memorable experience from the set of the film Moneyball, revealing the striking advice he received from director Bennett Miller. Pratt discussed how Miller’s blunt feedback pushed him to deliver a powerful performance, showcasing the intense dynamics of working in Hollywood.
On the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast, Pratt reflected on a scene where he portrayed Scott Hatteberg, a real-life former professional baseball player. He described how he was meant to express frustration while attempting to catch the ball. Despite his training, Pratt found himself struggling with the character’s emotions. In a moment that would later define his performance, Miller approached him and candidly remarked, “Just stop being such an a–hole.”
Pratt admitted that the comment angered him initially but acknowledged its effectiveness. “I was sweating, and he knew how to push my buttons to make the character do something that I don’t do authentically very well, which was anger,” he explained. The result was a poignant scene where his character is visibly frustrated, with perspiration dripping down his face, culminating in a raw and authentic moment captured on film.
Insights from a Rising Star
The actor’s journey to stardom has been anything but conventional. He revealed that he was discovered by actress and director Rae Dawn Chong while working as a server at Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. in Maui at the age of 19. During this time, he carried a name tag that read “Christopher,” but due to wear and tear, it displayed “Christo.” This accidental nickname almost became his stage name.
“High turnover rate, the new employees thought my name was Christo,” he recounted. As he transitioned to pursue his acting dreams in Los Angeles, he briefly considered adopting the name “Christo” professionally. Ultimately, he opted for “Chris,” but he humorously noted that few people actually call him that.
Pratt’s personal life has also captured public interest. He is married to Katherine Schwarzenegger Pratt, daughter of actor and former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. Together, they share three children: Lyla, 5, Eloise, 3, and Ford, 1. Pratt also has a son, Jack, 13, from his previous marriage to actress Anna Faris.
A Unique Christmas Gift
In a lighthearted moment, Pratt shared details about a unique Christmas gift he received from his father-in-law, Schwarzenegger. On “The Graham Norton Show,” he described a striking 6-foot by 8-foot portrait featuring all three of his children alongside Schwarzenegger dressed as Santa Claus. “His love language is giving gifts, that’s for sure,” Pratt noted, emphasizing the lifelike quality of the artwork.
As Pratt continues to navigate his career and family life, his candid reflections on both the challenges and joys of acting resonate with fans. His journey, marked by both memorable performances and personal anecdotes, illustrates the multifaceted nature of Hollywood stardom.
