Rumors surrounding the alleged death of Chinese singer and actor Kris Wu, also known as Wu Yi Fan, have been officially dismissed by local authorities. The Jiangsu police confirmed that claims of his death while serving a 13-year sentence in prison are “false.” In a statement, they urged the public to refrain from spreading what they described as “groundless rumors.”
This incident marks the third time rumors about Kris Wu’s death have surfaced since he began his incarceration. The latest speculation reportedly originated from an individual claiming to have served time with the singer. This person alleged on social media that Kris Wu was murdered due to failing to meet the demands of local prison gang members. Such assertions have fueled further unfounded rumors, including disturbing claims of organ harvesting.
Kris Wu was sentenced in 2022 for multiple offenses, receiving a total of 13 years behind bars. His sentence includes 11 years and six months for rape, coupled with an additional one year and 10 months for “assembling a crowd to engage in sexual promiscuity.” Following his prison term, he is set to be deported to Canada, where he holds citizenship and spent part of his upbringing.
The persistence of these death rumors reflects the intense public interest in Kris Wu, who first gained fame as a member of the popular boy band EXO in 2012. He departed from the group in 2014 to pursue a solo career, which has been marred by his legal troubles in recent years.
Authorities have emphasized the importance of verifying information before sharing it online, especially regarding sensitive topics such as health and safety. The Jiangsu police’s firm response serves as a reminder of the impact that misinformation can have on individuals and their families.
