Becca Tilley and Hayley Kiyoko have opened up about their recent engagement, revealing the heartfelt details behind the moment that changed their lives. During the July 10, 2023, episode of Tilley’s podcast, “Scrubbing In,” Kiyoko shared her ambitious plans to surprise Tilley, acknowledging the challenge given Tilley’s intuition and perceptiveness.
The couple, who have been together for seven years, traveled to Mallorca, Spain, earlier this month. Tilley recounted her surprise, stating, “I always thought I would be the first to propose.” Despite her friends speculating about a possible engagement, she dismissed their inquiries, insisting the trip was merely a vacation. “I don’t even have a ring or anything,” she recalled, emphasizing her lack of expectations leading into the getaway.
Kiyoko meticulously orchestrated the trip, planning every detail to ensure it was memorable. Her goal was to find a secluded beach with stunning turquoise waters—an experience she knew Tilley had always dreamed of. “Her dream is to go to Mallorca during high season with beautiful weather,” Kiyoko explained. On the morning of the proposal, Kiyoko suggested visiting a beach frequented by locals, which turned out to be a nudist beach, leading to unexpected moments during their engagement photos.
As the moment approached, Tilley described how Kiyoko took her sun hat and sunglasses, leaving her confused but unaware of the proposal unfolding. “I’m like, ‘Why?’ She’s not saying anything,” Tilley remembered. Kiyoko was focused solely on her proposal plans, keeping the atmosphere light yet charged with emotion.
When Kiyoko finally retrieved the ring from her purse, Tilley noticed her partner was visibly emotional. “She’s already crying, and I’m so overwhelmed because it was so unexpected,” Tilley said.
