The character of Sean Reagan, previously played by Andrew Terraciano in the popular series Blue Bloods, has been recast in the new spinoff Boston Blue. The show premiered in October 2024, introducing Mika Amonsen as the new Sean Reagan, leaving fans curious about Terraciano’s current endeavors following his departure from the role.
Terraciano, now 22 years old, portrayed Sean Reagan from 2010 to 2024, appearing in nearly 300 episodes. During his time on the show, he also engaged in various short film projects and authored his own film while studying at New York University. His on-screen relationship with brother Tony Terraciano, who played Jack Reagan, contributed to a beloved family dynamic on the show.
In an interview with Variety, Brandon Margolis, the creator of Boston Blue, explained the decision to recast the role. “We love Andrew and the work he did over the years on Blue Bloods. It came down to telling a new chapter in both of their lives,” Margolis stated. The show shifts the focus to Sean as he embarks on his journey into the family business of policing, a theme that had not been explored previously.
Margolis described the recasting as “an organic opportunity to bring in a new performance with a new energy.” He expressed enthusiasm about exploring “new storytelling lanes” in the spinoff. The character remains the same, but the dynamics have shifted, with Amonsen portraying Sean as a character filled with vulnerability and a strong desire to prove himself.
Despite the transition, Terraciano has maintained a connection to his previous role, keeping “Sean Reagan on CBS’s Blue Bloods” in his Instagram bio. After a brief hiatus from social media, he resurfaced in November 2024, sharing glimpses of his life outside acting.
Amonsen, who stepped into the role of Sean, acknowledged the pressure of succeeding Terraciano. “I definitely felt a ton of pressure at first… I wanted to respect Andrew the best I could,” she remarked. Her approach included retaining certain visual elements from Terraciano’s portrayal to honor the character’s history.
She highlighted the importance of balancing respect for Terraciano’s performance while adding her unique touch. “I really want to maintain Sean as close as I can in the ways that I do it out of respect for this character that everyone loves,” Amonsen said. Her commitment to understanding Sean’s character led her to binge-watch episodes of Blue Bloods to grasp his evolution into adulthood and his relationship with Danny Reagan, played by Donnie Wahlberg.
Amonsen emphasized that her portrayal of Sean is not just a replication of what came before but rather an exploration of new possibilities. “We’re really just exploring what would have been… it is my own version of it but at the same time we haven’t seen this relationship with Sean and his dad before,” she concluded.
As Boston Blue continues to air on CBS Fridays at 10 p.m. ET, audiences are eager to witness how the new dynamics unfold, while Terraciano’s next steps remain a topic of interest among fans.
