Adam Levine, the lead vocalist of Maroon 5, has announced that he will no longer be adding to his collection of tattoos. During an appearance on the Today show on July 11, 2023, Levine humorously reflected on his latest body art, saying, “I covered up my sleeve with another sleeve. Who does that? What is wrong with me? Psychotic.” He described the pain involved in getting tattoos as a significant factor in his decision, stating, “It really hurt. I’m kind of done with the pain, I’ve decided. … Now, I’ve softened.”
Levine acknowledged that aside from the discomfort, he is also “running out of room” for new tattoos. He expressed appreciation for his existing tattoos, particularly those on his hands, but admitted it is difficult to choose a favorite. Levine’s journey into body art began at the age of 21, and over the years, he has accumulated numerous tattoos on various parts of his body, including his back and chest.
Levine’s Tattoo Philosophy and Personal Choices
While Levine is stepping back from adding more ink, he has made it clear that he will never tattoo his face. In a humorous message shared on his Instagram Stories in 2021, he addressed speculation about a potential face tattoo, saying, “I do not have a tattoo on my face. Those who know me know that I am too vain.” He emphasized that he values his appearance too much to permanently alter his face.
Despite his reservations about facial tattoos, Levine has embraced the concept of ink symbolizing love. He and his wife, Behati Prinsloo, share matching tattoos that express affection for one another. The couple got the phrase “you’re so cool, you’re so cool, you’re so cool” inked on their bodies, with Levine opting for his bicep and Prinsloo choosing her ribcage. In a past interview, Prinsloo praised Levine’s extensive back tattoo, which reflects a classic tattoo style often associated with the artist Sailor Jerry.
As Levine shifts his perspective on tattoos, he continues to celebrate the art form in a way that aligns with his personal values, balancing pain, aesthetics, and love in his choices.
