Wilkes University celebrated the achievements of more than 400 graduates during its summer commencement ceremony held on September 28, 2025. Degrees were conferred across various disciplines, including bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral programs, marking a significant milestone for both the students and the institution.
The ceremony featured welcoming remarks from David Ward, senior vice president and provost. Ben Toll, chair of the Faculty Affairs Council, and Brian Bogert, a member of the graduating class, also shared greetings with the attendees. The commencement address was delivered by Megan Youmans, associate professor and co-chair of chemistry, who inspired the graduates with her insights on leadership and resilience.
Greg Cant, president of Wilkes University, conferred the degrees, while Neal McHugh ’86, vice president of the alumni association, welcomed the newest graduates into the global community of over 50,000 Wilkes alumni.
Among the local students who earned degrees were Savannah Reardon from Dupont, who received a bachelor’s degree in nursing, and Jason Reynoso from Wilkes-Barre, who graduated with a bachelor’s degree in engineering management. Others included Luke Spencer, who earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration, and Colby Butczynski, who received a bachelor’s degree in sports management.
The list of graduates also included those achieving advanced degrees. Jennifer McLaughlin and Brian Bogert, both from Wilkes-Barre, earned doctorates in education. Sarah Swiderski, from Dallas, received a master’s degree in nursing, while Nicole Thomas from West Pittston graduated with a master’s degree in education.
In related achievements, Nicolette Bagoly from Wilkes-Barre was awarded a Master of Science degree from the University of Alabama during its summer commencement ceremonies. This further highlights the academic accomplishments of students from the region.
In a separate athletic achievement, Rachel Galasso of Sweet Valley is playing for the Kutztown University field hockey team in the 2025 season. The team previously won the NCAA Division II championship in 2023 and faced a close defeat to Saint Anselm College in the championship game last season.
The summer commencement at Wilkes University not only celebrates individual successes but also emphasizes the institution’s commitment to fostering academic excellence and preparing students for future challenges in their respective fields.
