The annual Homecoming Week at Scottsbluff High School kicked off with a lively parade and a vibrant “Super Rally” on October 7, 2023. During this celebratory event, Landen Heine and Allison Baer were crowned as Homecoming King and Queen, respectively. The ceremony highlighted the school’s spirit and community engagement, drawing numerous attendees from the local area.
At the Super Rally, a significant moment was the announcement of the Homecoming court. In addition to Baer and Heine, the queen candidates included Missy Armstrong, Kyndal Burgner, Ava Reed, and Addie Peck. Peck was represented by the Bearcat mascot during the rally as she was participating in a district golf competition. Similarly, king candidates were TJ Bastron, Eddie Griess, Nate Kelley, and George Schmall.
Baer expressed her surprise and gratitude following her crowning, stating, “I definitely feel the love,” while Heine reflected on the experience, saying, “It’s just kind of surreal. Little sixth-grade me kind of never really would have thought I’d be here. It’s kind of crazy.” Both students were nominated by their respective groups, with Baer being put forward by the junior ROTC and Heine by Mu Alpha Theta.
Themed Celebrations and Community Involvement
This year, Scottsbluff’s homecoming theme is “Rio,” adding a tropical flair to the week-long celebration. The excitement will continue with the football game against Hastings scheduled for October 10, 2023, at 19:00. During the halftime show, the Homecoming Royalty, which includes Heine, Baer, first runners-up Reed and Kelley, and second runners-up Peck and Schmall, will be formally recognized.
The parade saw a vibrant turnout, with community members gathering to celebrate, whether or not they had students participating. Local resident Luiza Guzman noted, “It’s just really fun to watch (the parade),” highlighting the enthusiasm generated by the marching band and cheerleading performances. This year was particularly special for Guzman as her daughter Olivia is a freshman at the school, marking a new chapter in their family traditions.
Guzman, along with her twin daughters, Anita and Iviana, cheered for Olivia as she rode on the HOSA float, showcasing the strong community bonds fostered during such events.
Upcoming Events and Participation Requirements
As Homecoming Week progresses, students and families are eagerly anticipating the Homecoming Dance, set to take place on October 11, 2023, at the Scottsbluff High School Commons from 20:00 to 22:30. To attend, students must be in good standing, and tickets will be pre-sold for $5 per person during the week leading up to the dance. Those from outside the school wishing to attend must obtain dance forms available in the main office, which must be returned by October 9 at 15:30.
