Nearly 60 school counselors from over two dozen districts convened at the Capital Region BOCES for a comprehensive overview of workforce development and career education initiatives planned for the 2026-27 school year. This event offered attendees valuable insights into new and existing programs aimed at enhancing students’ career readiness.
During the daylong session, counselors were introduced to a new Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) program, designed to equip students with essential skills for a career in emergency services. This program is part of a broader effort to expand career and technical education (CTE) offerings within the region.
Updates on Current Programs
Alongside the introduction of the EMT program, counselors received updates on the New Visions: Emerging Technologies program, which commenced this academic year. This initiative focuses on exposing students to cutting-edge technological advancements and preparing them for careers in high-demand fields.
Additionally, attendees learned about developments in the Manufacturing and Machining Technology program, which has been updated to meet the evolving needs of the industry. These programs are crucial as they provide students with practical skills and experiences that align with current workforce demands.
The gathering underscored the importance of collaboration among educational institutions and local businesses to ensure that students are equipped with the competencies required in a rapidly changing job market. As the 2026-27 school year approaches, the emphasis on workforce development remains a priority for the Capital Region BOCES and participating school districts.
Overall, the event served as a platform for counselors to enhance their understanding of available programs, enabling them to better guide students in their career paths and prepare for future opportunities.
