Rosalie Ondrush, a dedicated registered nurse and beloved family member, passed away recently, leaving behind a legacy of service and devotion. Born on November 9, 1933, in Lansford, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of John and Mary Koller. Rosalie’s journey led her to New York City, where she attended the Fordham Hospital School of Nursing and graduated as a registered nurse in September 1954.
In 1956, she married her husband, John Ondrush, who predeceased her in 1993. The couple initially lived in the Bronx, New York, before relocating to Farmington, Connecticut, where they welcomed two additional children into their family. Rosalie is survived by her daughter, Laura Ondrush, and three sons: Ken Ondrush (and his wife Amelia), Keith Ondrush (and his wife Lisa), and Kyle Ondrush (and his wife Kirstin). She also leaves behind two grandsons, Pedro Ondrush (and his wife Lauren) and Filipe Ondrush, as well as a great-grandson, John Alfred Ondrush.
A Career Devoted to Nursing
Throughout her career, Rosalie dedicated herself to nursing, most recently working with Dr. Denes Balazs in West Hartford. She continued her practice at ProHealth in Farmington before retiring in her early seventies. Her commitment to healthcare reflected her deep compassion and commitment to those in her care.
After retirement, Rosalie embraced travel, exploring various destinations with her sisters, Louise and Janice, as well as family members. Since 1986, annual trips to Cape May, New Jersey, became a cherished tradition, where she created lasting memories with loved ones.
A Lifelong Passion for Reading and Creativity
Rosalie was a passionate reader, enjoying historical nonfiction, contemporary novels, and a good murder mystery. Each morning, she would sit at her kitchen table with her small dog at her feet, enjoying her two newspapers. Her creative pursuits included knitting and making handmade cards, showcasing her artistic flair.
The family expresses their gratitude to the staff at Autumn Lake in New Britain, where Rosalie spent her final years. They particularly appreciate the dedication of the caring personnel in the memory care unit who provided support and companionship.
In accordance with the family’s wishes, services for Rosalie will be private. In lieu of flowers, they request that donations be made to Connecticut Public, PBS, or NPR. Arrangements are being handled by The Ahern Funeral Homes, Inc., with further information available at www.ahernfuneralhome.com.
