The Board of Trustees at Princeton University has announced the approval of two new assistant professors, enhancing the institution’s academic offerings. Ethan Russo has officially joined the faculty in the Department of Philosophy as of January 16, 2024. Kyle Mitchell Pietrzyk will join the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering in September 2026.
Ethan Russo specializes in key areas such as metaphysics, logic, and ancient Greek philosophy. He brings a robust academic background with a Ph.D. from New York University, complemented by a B.A. and B.S.A. from the University of Texas at Austin. His work is expected to contribute significantly to the philosophical discourse at Princeton, particularly in exploring foundational concepts and their implications.
On the other hand, Kyle Mitchell Pietrzyk focuses on the intricacies of civil and environmental engineering. His expertise lies in multiscale modeling of porous media systems, mesoscale materials simulation, and nonlinear control design for energy systems. Pietrzyk holds a Ph.D. from Stanford University and both an M.S. and B.S. from Santa Clara University. His appointment is anticipated to bolster research and innovation within the engineering department, particularly in sustainable practices and advanced material applications.
The addition of these two faculty members reflects Princeton’s commitment to advancing knowledge across diverse fields and enhancing its academic community. Their diverse expertise will not only enrich classroom experiences but also foster interdisciplinary collaboration within the university. The Board of Trustees expressed confidence that both Russo and Pietrzyk will contribute meaningfully to the university’s mission of excellence in education and research.
