A program designed to provide high school students with essential support and guidance has entered its second year across the Flagstaff Unified School District. The Path2Purpose program, a collaboration between Coconino Community College and the local school district, is now operating in Flagstaff, Coconino, and the newly added Summit High School. The initiative aims to help students navigate their high school experience and prepare for postsecondary education.
Launched in the previous academic year, the Path2Purpose program employs success coaches who work directly with students at Flagstaff High School (FHS) and Coconino High School (CHS). The program has proven effective in guiding students toward achieving their academic and career goals. Freshman student Jasper Jones was seen engaging with a worksheet during a recent tutoring session at Flagstaff High School, illustrating the hands-on approach the program takes to support students.
The expansion to Summit High School marks a significant milestone for the Path2Purpose initiative, which continues to prioritize student success. Success coach Scott Shaffer highlighted the importance of providing tailored support to each student, stating that the program is designed to meet their unique needs. This individualized approach has fostered a supportive environment where students feel empowered to succeed.
In addition to academic support, Path2Purpose encourages students to engage in community service. Last year, students participated in a day of service in partnership with the Arizona Trail Association, further enhancing their connection to the community and promoting teamwork. Karma Saathoff, a student at Flagstaff High School, was actively involved in trail work during this event, demonstrating the program’s commitment to fostering a sense of citizenship alongside academic achievement.
The Path2Purpose program exemplifies how educational institutions can collaborate to provide meaningful support to students. By focusing on both academic success and personal development, the initiative aims to prepare students not just for graduation, but for a successful future in higher education and beyond. With its ongoing expansion, the program is set to impact even more students in the Flagstaff area.
