Northern Wyoming Community College Acquires Land for New Campus

The Northern Wyoming Community College District Board of Trustees has approved the purchase of approximately 11 acres of land in Johnson County for $399,900. This decision, made during a special meeting on October 30, 2023, at the Bomber Mountain Civic Center, signifies a significant step forward for Sheridan College.

The newly acquired land is situated just north of Buffalo High School. For nearly a decade, Sheridan College has operated within the confines of the Bomber Mountain Civic Center, which has served as a temporary solution for the institution’s educational needs. This acquisition aims to provide the college with a dedicated space for future expansion and enhanced facilities.

Board Chair Jim Dyer expressed enthusiasm regarding the decision, noting the potential this land holds for the college’s growth in the region. “This purchase is an important investment in the future of education in Johnson County,” he stated. The board’s unanimous approval reflects a collective commitment to improving educational resources and accessibility for students in the area.

The acquisition aligns with the college’s long-term strategic plan to develop a more permanent and tailored campus environment. Plans for the new site may include classrooms, administrative offices, and other facilities that support the diverse needs of students and faculty.

Local community members have also reacted positively to the news. Many see this as an opportunity for increased educational offerings and community engagement. The potential for new programs and resources could significantly benefit the residents of Johnson County, fostering a culture of learning and innovation.

As the college moves forward with this project, the Board of Trustees will outline specific plans for the development of the new campus in the coming months. This initiative exemplifies the college’s dedication to adapting to the evolving educational landscape and meeting the demands of its student body.

In the wake of this decision, Sheridan College appears poised to enhance its presence in Johnson County. The acquisition not only signifies progress for the institution but also highlights the importance of investing in educational infrastructure to better serve the community.
