Mountain Brook High School demonstrated exceptional talent at the Alabama DECA State Competition held recently, where 27 students represented their school among nearly 1,300 participants from across the state. The event, which took place in March 2024, showcased the students’ business acumen and problem-solving skills in a competitive environment.
Prior to the competition, participants completed a rigorous 100-question exam in their selected categories, contributing to one-third of their overall score. During the event, competitors faced real-world business scenarios, allowing them 30 minutes to devise and present solutions to a panel of judges. This roleplay segment accounted for the remaining two-thirds of their scores, emphasizing both analytical and presentation skills.
Mountain Brook High School excelled in this challenging setting, with 13 students earning finalist positions. Notably, five entries secured top four finishes in their respective categories. Among the standout performers, Charlotte Morrow and Marcella Morgan achieved a commendable second place in the Hospitality Services category. Additionally, Sam Long earned third place in Automotive Services, showcasing strong expertise in this competitive field.
The achievements continued with Reese Zaucha and William Tabb, who finished fourth in Business Law and Ethics. Other finalists included Nicholson Lowery and Michael Huddleston in Sports and Entertainment Marketing, and Joseph Johnston and Davis Condra, also in Sports and Entertainment Marketing. In the Travel and Tourism category, Hollis Thomasson and Caroline Courtenay alongside Elizabeth Powell and Eva Worthen showcased their skills, further contributing to Mountain Brook’s impressive overall performance.
School officials expressed pride in their students’ accomplishments at the statewide competition, highlighting the dedication and hard work that led to these impressive finishes. The results not only reflect individual talent but also underscore the supportive educational environment at Mountain Brook High School, fostering future leaders in business.
As the students prepare for future competitions, their success at the DECA state level serves as a strong foundation for their ongoing development in the business field.
