Libraries Launch Exciting Events and Programs for All Ages

Libraries across the region are gearing up for a host of engaging events and programs aimed at all ages. Highlights include discussions with renowned authors, community activities, and educational opportunities. The Back Mountain Library and the Hoyt Library are at the forefront of these initiatives, offering a variety of events designed to foster community involvement and learning.

Upcoming Author Events

The Hoyt Library is hosting an impressive lineup of virtual author discussions. On **October 22, 2025**, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Malala Yousafzai will discuss her memoir, **“Finding My Way,”** at **7 p.m.** Following this, historical novelist Philippa Gregory will delve into her latest work, **“Boleyn Traitor,”** on **October 29** at **2 p.m.**

On **November 5**, journalist Joseph Lee will explore Indigenous identity in his book **“Nothing More of This Land”** at **2 p.m.** This conversation highlights the tension between heritage and commercialism in iconic tourist destinations. Later in the month, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Charles Duhigg will lead a discussion on **November 18** about effective communication in his book **“Supercomminicators.”**

Additionally, on **November 13**, author Amanda Peters will discuss her bestselling novel **“The Berry Pickers”** and her short fiction collection, **“Waiting for the Long Night Moon: Stories.”**

Community Engagement Activities

The Wyoming Valley Stamp Club is organizing a Halloween-themed event on **October 25**, from **1 to 3 p.m.** This family-friendly gathering will feature trick-or-treating for children, a spooky stamp display, and a presentation on horror-themed stamps. New members are encouraged to join, and registration can be completed via phone at the library.

Families can also enjoy **Classic Bingo** on **October 28**, from **3 to 4 p.m.** This adults-only event is free, with opportunities to win prizes, but pre-registration is required.

The library is also hosting a book launch reception for **Andrew Greer’s** latest work, **“More than a President, Sundays with Jimmy Carter,”** on **November 1**, from **10 a.m. to noon**. Tickets are priced at **$45** and include a signed copy of the book and light refreshments.

For younger audiences, the **Makerspace Mondays** program will provide hands-on learning experiences in STEM for children aged **7 to 15** every Monday from **5:15 to 6:15 p.m.** This initiative aims to inspire the next generation of thinkers and creators.

The **Alice’s Closet** program is seeking donations of gently used clothing, shoes, and homewares to support its community initiatives. Donations can be made during library hours and will directly benefit library programs.

For those interested in cultivating their creative skills, the library offers **Free Crochet Time** on Thursdays and **LEGO Build Fun for Kids** on Thursdays from **5:15 to 6:15 p.m.**

Additional Learning Opportunities

The **American Heart Association** will hold a Heartsaver CPR and AED class on **November 5**, starting at **6 p.m.** The cost for this invaluable training is **$10**, payable at the class. Registration is required through the library.

The Mill Memorial Library is hosting a **Friends of the Mill Memorial Library** book sale on **November 1** from **10 a.m. to 1 p.m.** The sale will feature hardcovers for **$2**, softcovers for **$1**, and children’s books for **50 cents**. Proceeds will support library programs.

Several libraries are offering themed storytime sessions and book clubs. The **Nuangola Library** hosts a book club every Tuesday, and the **Osterhout Free Library** features a Halloween special with discounted themed books.

With such a diverse array of events and programs, local libraries are not only promoting literacy and education but also fostering community connections. Interested participants are encouraged to register for events and get involved in their local libraries, ensuring a vibrant and engaged community.
