Libraries Host Engaging December Events for Community Enrichment

Public libraries across the region are gearing up for a vibrant December, offering a variety of events designed to engage and enrich the community. From author discussions to hands-on crafting, these activities aim to foster creativity, learning, and connection among residents.

Highlighted Events Across Local Libraries

At the **Back Mountain Library**, located at **96 Huntsville Road, Dallas**, the month kicks off with a virtual author series. On **December 2, 2025**, debut author **Sue Hincenbergs** will discuss her dark comedy, “The Retirement Plan,” at **2 p.m.** Following that, **Paula J. Johnson** will share insights about her book, “Julia Child’s Kitchen: The Design, Tools, Stories, and Legacy of an Iconic Space,” on **December 9** at the same time.

In addition to virtual events, the library invites community members to participate in “Rest and Reflection December Journaling” sessions. Scheduled for **December 6** and **December 20** from **10 a.m. to 11 a.m.**, these gatherings aim to provide a tranquil space for grounding and reflection as the year comes to a close. Sessions will be led by **Gina Harrison** from Wilkes University, with journals and light refreshments provided.

The library is also hosting a holiday basket raffle, with tickets priced at **$1 each** or **$5 for six** until **December 13**. Winners will be announced on **December 15**. The proceeds from the raffle will support library programming.

Additional Activities and Opportunities

At the **Laflin Library**, located at **45 Laflin Road**, a popular annual event is set for **December 5**. The library’s graham-cracker gingerbread-house decorating event will take place from **3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.**, providing families with a festive opportunity to create holiday treats.

Meanwhile, the **Marian Sutherland Kirby Library** at **35 Kirby Ave., Mountain Top**, invites attendees to a class on creating woodland creature ornaments on **December 3** at **6 p.m.** This acrylic painting session, led by **Lisa Rosser**, is limited to **20 adults** and costs **$10**.

Community members can also participate in the **Free Crochet Time** at the **Mill Memorial Library** in Nanticoke, every Thursday from **1 p.m. to 3 p.m.** This event welcomes crochet enthusiasts of all skill levels to share their projects and enjoy a supportive environment.

For those interested in giving back, the **Wellness Corner Care Drive** at the Back Mountain Library is seeking donations to restock hygiene products. Items must be new and factory sealed, including shampoo, body wash, and feminine hygiene products.

The **Un-Bound Book Club**, which meets on the third Thursday of each month, continues to welcome new members for casual discussions about various literary works, emphasizing community connection through shared interests.

As the holiday season approaches, local libraries are not only providing festive activities but also promoting a spirit of giving and community support. With diverse offerings for all ages, libraries serve as vital community hubs, encouraging creativity, learning, and social interaction.
