PARMA, Ohio – Leah Euerle, who was elected to the Parma City Schools Board of Education in November 2023, has been appointed as the board president. Euerle expressed her commitment to education, stating, “Serving on the school board allows me to continue giving back to the community and supporting students, staff and families at the systems level.”
Euerle’s background as an educator and administrator equips her with a unique perspective. She has taught social studies and history at various educational levels, including elementary, middle, and high school. Previously, Euerle served as principal of Brook-View Elementary School before taking on the role of student wellness consultant at the Educational Service Center (ESC) of Northeast Ohio. In this position, she focused on enhancing student well-being and mental health initiatives.
Goals for the Community
Setting clear objectives, Euerle has outlined five goals to guide her leadership on the board. These include establishing consistent norms for the board, fostering collaborative relationships with school officials, reviewing board policies in relation to instructional practices, enhancing transparency, and maintaining fiscal responsibility.
“I want to ensure that we are investing in what truly benefits our students while also advocating for more equitable and attainable public school funds at the local and state level,” Euerle emphasized. Her commitment to these goals reflects her desire to create a strong, student-centered educational environment.
Euerle also noted the importance of community involvement in school funding discussions. The Board of Education is currently exploring a proposal for an income tax increase ballot issue. If approved, this measure could replace three property tax levy renewals, potentially saving homeowners approximately $500 annually.
Community Engagement and Collaboration
Euerle recognized the need for a new approach to addressing the financial challenges facing the district. “Our residents care about the future of the schools, so we as a district have to take a different approach than we have in the past to financially meet the needs of the district,” she stated.
Her perspective as a parent, along with her husband, Rob Euerle, who serves as a city councilman, adds a personal dimension to her commitment to the community. Together, they are raising four children in Parma. Euerle believes her experience in the classroom and administrative roles will help ensure that board decisions are informed and beneficial to both students and staff.
Euerle’s appointment as president so early in her term came as a surprise, but she expressed gratitude for the opportunity. “I take that responsibility very seriously,” she said, highlighting her dedication to fostering a positive educational environment for the community.
As she embarks on this new leadership role, Euerle aims to bring a practitioner’s perspective to the board, ensuring that decisions made at the district level are grounded in real-world classroom experiences. Her leadership will be closely watched as she works to implement her vision for Parma City Schools.
