The Hazleton Area Public Library and its branches are set to offer a variety of engaging events throughout October 2025. These activities cater to different age groups and interests, from book sales to creative workshops, all designed to foster community involvement and learning.
Upcoming Events at Local Libraries
The Hazleton Area Public Library, located at 55 N. Church St., Hazleton, will kick off its month of activities with a book sale on October 11, from 10:00 to 14:00. This cash-only event will feature hardcovers for 50 cents, paperbacks for 25 cents, and a selection of DVDs, puzzles, and audiobooks available at low prices.
On October 13, the library invites grade schoolers for LEGO Night from 18:00 to 19:00. This event includes a building challenge and free building time, with registration required through the youth services department. Families with children of all ages can also participate in the Homeschool Hour program, “The Beauty of Math in Art,” on October 14. Participants will explore the intersection of mathematics and art, focusing on patterns like fractals and tessellations.
For adults seeking an enjoyable evening, the library will host an Adult Board Game Night on October 14, from 18:00 to 19:30. Participants can enjoy classic games such as Scrabble and chess, with registration necessary through the Reference Desk.
Interactive Workshops and Support Programs
The Hazleton Area Public Library will also offer a guided meditation session led by certified instructor Sheila Dignazio on October 15, from 18:00 to 19:00. This beginner-friendly session aims to teach mindfulness techniques for stress reduction.
Additionally, an informative mental health program titled “Getting Unstuck” will be held on October 18, from 14:00 to 15:00. Facilitated by licensed social worker Karen Holcomb, this free session is open to all adults and will focus on overcoming life’s challenges.
Teenagers in grades six through twelve can participate in a robot racing competition on October 20, from 18:00 to 19:00, with all materials provided. Registration for this event opens on October 13.
The library will also continue its Family Storytime sessions every Monday through October 27, from 09:30 to 10:30, focusing on children aged three to five.
The Marian Sutherland Kirby Library on 35 Kirby Ave., Mountain Top, will host a monthly Socrates Café on the fourth Wednesday at 18:00, where participants can engage in thoughtful discussions. The Ringtown Area Library will hold Preschool Playtime every Tuesday from 10:30 to 11:30, providing an unstructured hour for socialization and play for children and caregivers.
Meanwhile, the Weatherly Area Community Library will celebrate the grand opening of its book sale room on October 17, from 09:00 to 12:00, and again on October 18, from 09:00 to 13:00. A puzzle competition is also scheduled for November 22, where teams can compete to complete a 500-piece puzzle for a chance to win a $20 gift certificate.
