Students from Groveton High School’s cosmetology program embarked on an educational field trip to the Farouk USA Headquarters in Houston, Texas, on a recent morning. The group departed the school at 07:00, eager to learn about the history and innovations of Farouk Systems, Inc., a prominent beauty company established in 1986 by Palestinian entrepreneur and hairdresser Farouk Shami.
Instructor Victoria Robertso expressed pride in the students’ commitment to attending the trip. She noted that it provided them with invaluable insights into the “Farouk Chi history.” Shami’s journey began with a personal challenge: after developing an allergy to chemicals in hair color, he created the first ammonia-free hair color to promote safer salon practices. His innovative spirit continued with the development of the CHI ceramic flat iron, a technology he pioneered with the assistance of NASA scientists.
The ethos of Farouk Systems is grounded in the principles of “Environment, Education, and Ethics.” The company emphasizes safe salon practices and the use of high-quality products, such as BioSilk Silk Therapy, which is renowned for its silk-based formulation. This commitment to quality and safety resonates with the values instilled in the students throughout their training.
As these seniors approach graduation next year, their newfound knowledge may open doors for careers with Chi USA, should they choose to pursue that path. The field trip not only enriched their understanding of the beauty industry but also connected them directly to a pioneering figure in cosmetology. This experience exemplifies the practical learning opportunities that enhance their education and prepare them for future endeavors in the field.
