A Legacy of Service and Commitment
Motley graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in 1964, where he earned his degree in engineering. He spent the next 30 years working at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard, contributing significantly to the field and earning recognition for his expertise. His commitment extended beyond his professional life as he was also an active member of the Churchland Lions Club, where he engaged in various community service initiatives.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Carolyn Motley, with whom he shared 58 years of marriage. Together, they raised two daughters, Patricia and Cristin, and welcomed seven grandchildren into their family. A funeral service to celebrate Motley’s life will take place on January 16, 2026, at 11 AM at the Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel. Prior to the service, family and friends are invited to pay their respects from 10 AM to 11 AM. Following the service, burial will occur privately at Olive Branch Cemetery.
