Fort Worth ISD Provides Free Meals for Students This Thanksgiving

The Fort Worth Independent School District (FWISD) will offer free meals to students during the Thanksgiving break from November 20 to 22, 2023. This initiative aims to support families in the community by ensuring that children have access to nutritious food during the holiday period.

Meals will be served daily from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at multiple school campuses across the district. The program is designed to assist not only students who rely on school-provided meals during the academic year but also those who may face food insecurity during the holiday season.

Details of the Meal Program

The meals will be available at designated FWISD campuses, including several elementary and secondary schools. This initiative allows parents and guardians to bring their children to participate in a meal service that fosters community connection while alleviating the burden of providing meals during the break.

Parents are encouraged to check the FWISD website for specific locations and any additional information regarding the meal offerings. The district’s commitment to student well-being is evident through this program, underscoring the importance of providing adequate nutrition to all children, especially during holidays when families may be struggling financially.

Community Impact and Support

FWISD officials emphasize that this meal service is a vital resource for families facing challenges during the holiday season. In a statement, Dr. Kent P. Scribner, Superintendent of FWISD, highlighted the district’s mission to ensure that no child goes hungry.

“This program reflects our commitment to the health and well-being of our students and their families,” Dr. Scribner stated. “We recognize that the holiday season can be difficult for many, and we want to do our part to support our community.”

The initiative aligns with broader efforts across Texas and the nation to address food insecurity, particularly among children. By providing free meals, FWISD not only nurtures physical health but also fosters a sense of belonging and community spirit among students and their families during Thanksgiving.

As the holiday approaches, FWISD continues to encourage families to take advantage of this opportunity, reinforcing the importance of community support and collaboration in ensuring that every child has access to healthy meals.
