The Florence Pioneer Museum and Research Center is set to launch its inaugural Children’s History Club for students in grades 3 to 5 this September. The registration event will take place at 10:00 a.m. on September 12, 2023, at the museum, located at 100 E. Front St. in Florence. This initiative aims to engage young learners in the rich history of Eastern Fremont County.
Class size for the Children’s History Club is limited to just 10 participants, ensuring an intimate learning environment. The club will explore various historical themes, including the heritage of the Ute Indians, the significance of local oil wells and coal mines, and the story of Florence’s founder, James McCandless. Sessions are scheduled to occur on Fridays from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., making it a convenient option for families.
To participate, parents are required to pay a fee of $35 per child, which will cover materials such as craft supplies and printing costs. The club welcomes all children in grades 3 to 5, regardless of whether they attend public schools, private institutions, or are homeschooled.
For those interested in learning more or meeting the club instructor, Marty Lamm, the museum will host open hours on Tuesdays and Fridays from 13:00 to 16:00, as well as Saturday mornings from 10:00 to 12:30. Visitors are encouraged to drop by for a chat and to explore the museum, especially if they have not visited before.
For additional information, interested parties can visit the museum’s official website at www.florencepioneermuseum.org and navigate to the Eastern Fremont County Historical Club section. This initiative offers a unique opportunity for children to connect with their local heritage while engaging in hands-on learning experiences.
