Fairview Park City Schools Launches $23,000 Girls Locker Room

Fairview Park City Schools has unveiled a newly renovated girls locker room, a significant upgrade valued at $23,000. This project was largely made possible by a generous anonymous donation of $13,500, alongside contributions of $5,000 from both the Fairview Park Athletic Club and the school district.

The transformation of the locker room aligns with the quality found in collegiate athletic facilities. Jon Adams, the Athletic Director at Fairview High School, highlighted the improvements, stating, “We have 35 new 22-inch wooden lockers that are 77 inches tall with lockable storage.” These lockers are designed to accommodate the needs of student-athletes, allowing them to store all their belongings—including school and athletic supplies—in one place.

This renovation replaces the approximately 60 lockers that had been in use since the high school’s indoor pool was closed over 20 years ago. Dan Rajkovich, Communications & Marketing Coordinator for Fairview Park City Schools, emphasized the importance of this upgrade in enhancing the experience for female athletes.

The initiative to renovate the locker room gained momentum thanks to Karen Swanson Haan, the head coach of the varsity girls basketball team. Since joining the district last year, she focused on rebuilding the culture and pride of the girls basketball program. Adams noted her role, saying, “She knew how important something like this would be to making the kids feel welcomed, so she helped out.”

The project included not only new lockers but also fresh paint for the walls, creating a more inviting atmosphere. This renovation is part of a broader effort to improve facilities for all student-athletes. Adams mentioned future plans, stating, “We’re looking to possibly mirror the locker rooms, so that we have equitable locker room space for both our boys and girls.”

The same anonymous donor who contributed to the girls locker room had previously funded a $34,000 upgrade to the Warriors weight room in 2022, indicating a commitment to enhancing athletic facilities within the school district.

This recent renovation stands as a testament to the importance of investing in student-athlete facilities, ensuring that all students feel valued and supported in their athletic endeavors. As Fairview Park City Schools continues to prioritize these enhancements, the focus remains on creating a positive and equitable environment for all athletes.
