Diverse Community Events Enrich Mid-Hudson Valley This January

A variety of engaging community events are taking place across the Mid-Hudson Valley this January, providing opportunities for artistic expression, education, and social interaction. From art workshops for teens to historical presentations, residents can participate in numerous activities designed to foster community connection.

Art and Music Workshops for Teens

A weekly art and music workshop for teens aged 12 to 18 is being held at the United Methodist Church in Port Ewen. The sessions run every Tuesday from 18:00 to 19:30 through March, offering all materials and healthy snacks at no cost. Educational Presentations and Classes

The Saugerties Adult Learning Community invites the public to register for its final winter presentation, set for February 4. This free talk, titled “The Esopus People: Indigenous History in New Paltz,” will be conducted via Zoom. Zachary Veith from Historic Huguenot Street will delve into the history and culture of the Esopus people, exploring their sustainable practices and interactions with European colonizers. Community Engagement and Entertainment

The Rhinecliff Volunteer Fire Company will host pancake breakfasts at their firehouse on select Sundays, including February 8, March 8, and April 12. The all-you-can-eat meals feature pancakes, sausage, fruit, coffee, and juice, with proceeds supporting the fire company.

In the realm of arts, the Hudson River Maritime Museum will launch its “Museum Mates” children’s activity series on the first Saturday and third Thursday of each month, providing engaging experiences through crafts and storytelling. Tickets are priced at $10 for Lego and storytelling days and $15 for craft days.

For those interested in local arts, the Woodstock Artists Association & Museum will unveil its “WAAM Annual Media: Waxworks” exhibition on January 23. This showcase will feature nearly 40 artists exploring the diverse possibilities of wax, and an opening reception is scheduled for January 24.

Local author Emma Tourtelot will present her new novel, “No One You Know,” on January 27, at the Morton Memorial Library. The event includes a discussion with local writer Sari Botton, with admission set at $10 without a book or $21 including a copy.

The Coach House Players are also holding auditions for the play “Panache” on January 26 and January 27. The production will take place in April, providing an opportunity for local talent to shine.

For those interested in sustainability, the Saugerties Repair Café will return on February 7, offering free repair services for household items. Volunteers will assist with various repairs, from electronics to sewing.
