A significant wave of construction is taking place across the Conroe Independent School District (CISD) as the district initiates nine major projects aimed at addressing student growth and enhancing educational facilities. Following the approval of a $1.8 billion bond in 2023 and a previous $653 million package in 2019, these developments reflect the district’s commitment to improving educational infrastructure.
New Schools Set to Open in Coming Years
Among the notable projects is the Rob Eissler Elementary School, designed to accommodate 950 students. Located at 14000 Old Conroe Road, this new school will serve the feeder zone for The Woodlands High School. As of July 17, updates indicate that the school is currently receiving furniture and instructional materials, with an anticipated opening for the 2025-26 academic year.
Similarly, the Mittie J. Campbell Elementary School will also house 950 students and serve the Oak Ridge and Caney Creek high school feeder zones. Located at 15895 Stonecrest Drive, it is on track for completion in the 2025-26 school year, with furniture installation already underway as of mid-July.
The Grand Oaks Junior High School and Ninth Grade Campus project aims to serve seventh, eighth, and ninth grades within the Grand Oaks High School feeder zone. Construction is progressing with masonry walls being installed after the erection of steel and roofing structures, located at 28075 Woodson’s Grand Drive, with an expected opening in January 2027.
Improvements at Established Schools
In addition to new builds, renovations are being made at Conroe High School to accommodate the growing student body. These improvements include creating a new entrance and connecting existing buildings, with completion anticipated in 2026. The school is located at 3200 W. Davis St.
The Kacy Arnold Elementary School, situated in the Grand Oaks High School feeder zone at 28378 Sterling Oak Drive, is also under construction, targeting an opening in August 2026. Updates confirm that work commenced as of July 17.
The Janene Fowler Intermediate School, serving grades five and six, will cater to the Conroe and Timber Mill feeder zones. Progress is steady, with utility connection agreements being negotiated with the city of Conroe, and it is scheduled to open in August 2026.
Meanwhile, Lynn Cartwright Junior High School, also for grades five and six, is being built in the Conroe High School feeder zone. The foundation is currently under construction, with an anticipated opening in August 2027.
Lastly, the Caney Creek High School ninth-grade campus is underway, with a capacity for 1,600 students. The foundation work is actively ongoing, and the school is set to open in August 2027. This facility will be located on FM 1485, just north of Highway 242.
Additionally, the Timber Mill High School project is progressing, creating a new feeder zone for students from Conroe and Caney Creek high schools. The district has begun structural steel work for the building, expected to be completed between December 2024 and August 2027.
These construction efforts by the Conroe Independent School District reflect a strategic initiative to provide adequate educational facilities for a growing student population, ensuring that students have access to modern and efficient learning environments.
